Community Standards and Expectations
ÑÇÖÞÇéɫ’s success partly depends on a shared responsibility to our mission and standards of conduct, which all members of the Moravian community1 have a duty to uphold. Each person is an integral part of this effort and is obligated to maintain the highest ethical standards in all associations and activities on behalf of the university. Our Community Standards and Expectations govern and guide the everyday actions of Moravian community members. These are further reflected and refined in many of the university’s policies and procedures and in many of the laws, regulations, and other agreements applicable to Moravian.
Respectful Engagement
WE COMMIT TO SUPPORTING AND VALUING EACH OTHER’S CONTRIBUTIONS TO NURTURE A COLLABORATIVE ENVIRONMENT.
- Listen to understand the views and perspectives of others.
- Engage in respectful dialogue with colleagues, students, and all university community members.
- Understand that each individual contributes to the university’s mission and success.
- Affirm academic freedom and freedom of expression within our community and commit to the highest standards of civility, courtesy, and sensitivity toward every individual.
Accountability
WE HOLD OURSELVES TO THE HIGHEST ETHICAL AND PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS TO CULTIVATE A UNIVERSITY THAT ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS TRUST AND RESPECT.
- Seek to understand and ensure compliance with the spirit and intent of university policies and procedures, contractual and grant obligations, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Maintain and protect the confidentiality of personally identifiable information regarding students and employees and the university’s confidential business and proprietary information.
- Respect, maintain, and preserve the physical and intellectual property of the university.
- Recognize and avoid or disclose, in accordance with university policy, any actual or potential conflicts of interest or conflicts of commitment2 that may impact the university.
- Employ responsible stewardship of university resources, including using financial and human resources wisely.

- Encourage and lead change that is for the greater good.
- Engage in and support active learning for all community members.
- Empower all learners to participate actively in improving our local, national, and global communities.
- Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, challenging traditional norms and practices to better serve diverse learners.
1 The Moravian community includes the trustees, officers, employees, student workers, and volunteers of ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ«, Moravian Theological Seminary, and Lancaster Theological Seminary.
2 A conflict of commitment may arise when an employee’s activities outside of work (for example, consulting, personal business, etc.) interfere with their commitment and responsibilities to Moravian.
