Medallion of Merit 2008

Anthony "Monk" Morelli Anthony "Monk" Morelli '59

When you say the name “Monk” at Moravian, almost everyone knows who you are talking about. Few alumni demonstrate passion for Moravian in as many ways as Anthony “Monk” Morelli. Whether he is representing Moravian as either a member of The Board of Trustees, The Alumni Association, The Omicron Gamma Omega (OGO) Alumni Association, or simply as a loyal alumnus, he has brought countless alumni back to “Rediscover Moravian” and to support the college.

Not only does Monk faithfully attend both Homecoming and Alumni Weekend, he was chair of the Alumni Weekend committee from 2001-2005 and volunteers to help at Homecoming. A Blue & Grey member, Monk strongly supports Moravian athletics. He has participated in both the Golf Classic and the Rocco Calvo Golf Tournament since 1991. Monk was instrumental in starting the Gus Rampone Scholarship Fund and continues to coordinate and run the annual golf tournament for its benefit. In 2006 he posthumously presented Gus Rampone ’59 as an inductee into the Hall of Fame; and Monk himself received the 2007 H.T.D. Gillespie Award for outstanding support of Greyhound athletics. Monk attends countless other Moravian events both on and off campus. He hosted a farewell reception for President Ervin Rokke and a reception for President Christopher Thomforde to welcome him into the Moravian family. Perhaps one of Monk’s proudest achievements was in helping to re-colonize OGO, continuing the legacy of leadership for students and alumni alike. The untold number of hours he dedicated to this effort did not go unnoticed; in 2006 the brothers created The OGO Alumnus of the Year Award, and honored Monk as its first recipient.

After years of enhancing alumni relations and student life Monk is now helping shape the future of Moravian College through his work on the Board of Trustees. In recognition of his unsurpassed dedication to the College in time, talent and financial support, The Alumni Association is proud to present Anthony “Monk” Morelli with its 2008 Medallion of Merit.
