The Moravian World Heritage Experience

May Term Closed: May 6 to May 17, 2025

The Moravian Heritage and Settlements Trip will take you back to where it all started. Travel begins in the Czech Republic where travelers visit the John A. Comenius Museum and walk the streets of Prague where the Father of modern education lived. From there, travel continues to Herrnhut, Germany, where the early Moravians fled, to visit Count Zinzendorf’s estate and the Moravian Star factory. Next, onto Christianfeld, Denmark (the original Moravian UNESCO World Heritage Site), and Belfast, Ireland near the Moravian village of Gracehill. Ireland affords many tourist opportunities, such as UNESCO World Hertitage sites, Giants Causeway, the Titantic Museum and building site, Game of Thrones filming sites and more. Departure back to the US is from Dublin.

This travel program is open to ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ« undergraduate, graduate and seminary students, as well as Moravian alumni and Central Moravian Church members.

All the landmarks mentioned in this itinerary will be visited. Some changes may be made in the order they will be visited.

Day 1: Fly from the US to Prague, Czech Republic.

Day 2: Arrive in Prague, take a guided walking tour of Prague's Old and New Towns, time to explore.

Day 3: Visit Comenius Museum, the Prague Castle, and Charles Bridge.

Day 4: Day trip to Moravia, Czech Republic.

Day 5: Travel by bus from Prague to Herrnhut, Germany, visit the Herrnhuter Sterne (Star) Factory, visit God's Acre, and learn about Herrnhut and the World Heritage initiative. 

Day 6: Attend a church service at the Moravian Church in Herrnhut. Visit Berthelsdof Manor (AKA Zinzendorf Castle) and the Völkerkundemusem (an ethnographic museum), tour of the Forming of the Moravian Church.

Day 7:  Travel from Herrnhut to Christiansfeld, Denmark via bus.

Day 8: Day in Christiansfeld, including a "World Heritage in a Special Class" Tour and exploring Christiansfeld's Moravian heritage.

Day 9: Travel by plane to Billund, Denmark for a flight to Belfast, Ireland. 

Day 10: Day trip to Gracehill, Ireland for a Gracehill Village tour and Moravian Church visit.

Day 11: Day trip to Giant's Causeway & other Northern Ireland castles.

Day 12: Visit the Titanic Museum in Belfast, travel to Dublin in the evening.

Day 13: Travel by plane from Dublin to the US.
