Bethlehem, Pa., November 10, 2014— Moravian College will celebrate Veterans Day on Tuesday, November 11 by giving the campus community an opportunity to honor the veterans they know and love.

The College will also hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony, unveiling a new student veteran lounge, in Reeves Library at 4:30 p.m. The lounge has been established in the lower level of Reeves library to provide a place at the heart of the campus where veteran students can gather to increase their social connections with other veterans and access relevant resources. Moravian College currently has 15 student veterans and a number of dependents of veterans who are using veteran benefits.

Moravian College is giving American flags which can be personalized with the names of loved ones, to students, faculty, and staff on Veterans Day in the Haupert Union Building (HUB) and at the 1742 marker near the corner of Locust and Monocacy Streets. The flags will be displayed on the lawn in front of Reeves Library

“Who will you honor tomorrow?” asks Carole Reese, chief research officer & director of special projects at Moravian College. “I'm going to honor my husband, my friends Marilyn and Scott, and the soldiers of Company C 228 Forward Support Battalion who served with my husband.”

Moravian College is proud to be a partner institution with the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program, an initiative designed to help people who have served in the military in the post-9/11-era, or their dependents, attend the college of their choice.

People who have served in the military who are entitled to the maximum benefit rate (based on service requirements) or their designated transferees may receive this funding. Based on Department of VA rules, active duty service members and their spouses are not eligible for this program; however child transferees of active duty service members may be eligible if the service member is qualified at the 100% rate.

Military personnel (and their dependents) who have served or are currently serving our country can take advantage of education benefits available through Veterans Affairs. Moravian College's veteran advocate is Melissa Labrie, Associate Director of Financial Aid, 610-861-1330, labriem@moravian.edu or veterans@moravian.edu.
