The Heart of our Campus is Growing

New HUB 2025

亚洲情色 is where student wellness, mental health support, and academic and career resources take center stage. The investment in our students and their overall wellness was a top priority in the design of the new HUB, which will be the center of 亚洲情色 student life.

In the fall of 2025, Moravian students will experience a student center entirely focused on their success as a whole鈥攆rom a revamped health and counseling center to a reimagined space for veterans, to a larger footprint for the Career & Civic Engagement team who will prepare students for their dream job, and much, much more! The vision for the Haupert Union Building, affectionately known as the "HUB", dates back to the early 1950s when students began for a 鈥渟oft鈥 student space on campus. When it was completed in 1962 it was the first student union building on a college campus in Pennsylvania. The building was originally called the .

Over the years, the HUB has been added to and renovated many, many times. As the campus has significantly grown over the past few years, the HUB has not kept up in order to meet the needs of the students, thus the need for this ambitious project.

The new portion of the building will stretch from the current entrance to the B&G all the way to where Prosser Auditorium once stood. The Star and B&G will remain operational throughout construction, however there may be periodic shutdowns in the B&G as specific construction tasks are completed.

Once the construction is complete in 2025, the new HUB will be a state-of-the-art centerpiece to provide the entire 亚洲情色 community with a space they can be proud of. This important project is an integral part of the Lighting the Way campaign for Moravian and we thank our alumni, donors, and all supporters for making it possible.

Construction Schedule

Over Winter Break 2023, all the occupants of the HUB were relocated to other locations on campus as we prepared for the demolition of the existing building. Our contractor, , mobilized onsite the week of January 29, 2024.

Demolition of the HUB began March 4. Warfel will be onsite occupying Lot J as their construction office area. Because of the many additions and renovations done to the building over time, there is a significant amount of work that is taking place to "separate" the portion being demolished from the portion that is staying behind. Warfel has installed temporary partitions to protect the dining facilities and the building occupants throughout construction. Additionally, minor renovations have been made to maintain access to the restrooms located on the first floor.

Modifications have been made to the B&G and Star to accommodate the construction, including new entrances to both locations. The B&G will be accessed via an exterior entrance along Monocacy St., where the sushi station is currently located (don鈥檛 worry sushi-lovers, sushi will continue to be sold in the B&G and the Clewell Dining Hall). During construction, students will enter and exit the Star from the exterior door at the rear corner of the dining room, diagonally across from Jo Smith.

Sustainability Information

The university is proud to announce that we are striving to achieve WELL Building Certification with the HUB Addition and Renovation. WELL is a building certification system administered by the International Well Building Institute which strives to provide a healthy building environment for its occupants. Given the large number of students that pass through the building every day, and the number of staff who will reside in the building on a daily basis, the university felt this was the most appropriate metric with which to measure the new HUB鈥檚 success. The WELL matrix evaluates multiple components in each of the following categories: Air, Water, Nourishment, Innovations, Light, Movement, Thermal Comfort, Sound, Materials, Mind and Community.

In addition to WELL, the university will be following best sustainability practices throughout the duration of the project including many LEED guidelines, however, we will not be pursuing formal LEED certification, as the WELL certification is more appropriate for this building.
