For immediate release The ceremony will mark the completion of the school’s 276th academic year BETHLEHEM, PA., May 7, 2018—T´Ç»å²¹²â,&²Ô²ú²õ±è;Moravian College announced it will hold the 2018 commencement exercises on Saturday, May 12, beginning at 10:00 a.m., on John Makuvek Field on the in Bethlehem, Pa. The ceremony will conclude the 276th academic year at Moravian College. In the event of severe weather, the program will be held on Sunday, May 13, at 10:00 a.m. at the PPL Center in Allentown, Pa. Moravian College President Bryon L. Grigsby ’90 will confer degrees on approximately 372 undergraduate, 79 graduate, and 20 seminary students at this year’s ceremony. , Moravian College class of 1972, will serve as commencement speaker. Dr. Jagger is a professor of research at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship for her work in mitigating the spread of blood-borne diseases among health care professionals through the use of improved safety-engineered devices that incorporated needle-shielding or needle-retracting features. Her innovation and insight resulted in five U.S. patents throughout her career, and she stood by President Bill Clinton’s side as he signed the U.S. Needlestick and Safety Act of 2000 into law. In honor of a long-standing Moravian College tradition, the graduating class has elected a student, a graduate student and a faculty member to speak at the commencement ceremony. River Jordan, receiving his bachelor of science in neuroscience, will serve as the student speaker for the class of 2018, and John Mikovits ’08, ’15, instructor of nursing, will deliver the statement from the faculty. Shawn Collier, receiving his master of education, will speak on behalf of the graduate students. The Moravian College baccalaureate service will be held on Friday, May 11 at 5:00 p.m. in , at 73 W. Church Street in Bethlehem, Pa. The program will include a call to mindfulness, musical offerings, a reading, remarks, student reflection, and a charge to the graduates.
