Moravian College Attracts the Largest Incoming Class in its 273 Year History

Class of 2019 Shatters Record as Enrollment Far Exceeds its Goals

Moravian

Bethlehem, Pa., May 7, 2015鈥擶hen the Class of 2019 arrives on campus this fall it will be by far the largest incoming undergraduate class in the history of the 273 year old institution鈥20% larger than any previous year.

At a time when many colleges and universities nationwide are scrambling to fill their classrooms and meet their enrollment goals, Moravian College has far exceeded its goal for undergraduate students 鈥攊ncreasing enrollment by more than 25% over the previous year.

The College has not compromised on student readiness despite the increase. Moravian attracted a highly-qualified group of students with an average GPA that is higher than the previous year.

Despite the record class, the Enrollment Management Division will continue working with international and transfer applicants over the summer to complete the group of new students for the fall.

Steve Soba, vice president for enrollment, credits all those at the College who did a phenomenal job coming together to help recruit a highly-qualified, new class of Hounds. 鈥淥ur current students, faculty, alumni and staff are very committed in this journey and I am so grateful for their partnership. We continue to grow as a College because everyone is 'rowing in the same direction.'鈥

鈥淚 am very proud of the job our enrollment team did in attracting the new class of Greyhounds to Moravian College,鈥 said Bryon L. Grigsby 鈥90, president. 鈥淥ur prospective students and their families have responded to our meaningful approach for delivering an education that combines professional preparation with the liberal arts鈥攁nd the use of technology. We provide our graduates with the skills and knowledge they will need to be successful in the 21st Century while remaining ever mindful of their return on investment. We look forward to challenging this group of students academically, and transforming them over four years into graduates who are ready to contribute to the work world or enter graduate school with confidence.鈥

The College attributes its success to a number of factors including its dedication to providing white glove customer service to prospective students and their families. The campus community has renewed its focus on providing best in class campus visit and events experiences. In addition, the College has been actively building upon partnerships with local school administrators, and has introduced the Lehigh Valley Scholarship this past year.

During the past year, the College has also expanded its health sciences programs and created partnerships within the community such as its agreement with St. Luke's University health Network to create a center for sports medicine. The College also partnered with Galvanized, Inc., a global health and wellness media company with an office on Moravian's campus, that is providing students with hands-on digital media marketing experiences.

鈥淚 would like to recognize my outstanding admission and financial aid office(s) led by executive director of admission Scott Dams,鈥 Soba noted. "I was excited by the vision and strategies going into this admission cycle and many talented folks helped bring our goals and objectives beyond fruition.鈥

鈥淢ost importantly, I believe the real winners here are our new Class of 2019 Hounds. These students want to join the Greyhound family and add to our tradition of excellence. I don't want to wish a very well-deserved summer away, but I can't wait until they all arrive at the end of August," Soba concluded.
