Master of Arts in Student Affairs Counseling

ÑÇÖÞÇéɫ’s Master of Arts in Student Affairs Counseling is designed to help you transform both individually and professionally. Our students benefit from state-of-the art training in a blended curriculum utilizing online, hybrid, and live classroom formats, taught by seasoned clinicians who are experts in the fields of counseling and student affairs administration. Graduates of the program will be trained to demonstrate their commitment to evidenced-based decision-making, life-long learning, and professional practice that is committed to social justice.

Our Mission

The Master of Arts in Student Affairs Counseling (MASAC) program in the School of Behavioral and Community Health is a state-of-the-art 36-credit hour training program offered in a blended curriculum utilizing online and hybrid formats taught by seasoned clinicians and administrators who are experts in their fields. Graduates of the program will be trained to demonstrate their commitment to evidence-based practice, life-long learning, and counseling and administrative professional foundation grounded in social justice. Graduates of the program will be prepared for their careers serving students and other stakeholders at community colleges, four-year colleges, non-profit organizations, and large research institutions.


Program Overview

The Moravian Student Affairs Counseling degree requires 36 total credits, which you can complete in one and 1/2 years of full-time study. The program is designed to prepare graduates to work in any of the following student affairs areas: academic advising, activities/events, admissions/enrollment management, alumni/development, athletics, career services, conduct, disability services, diversity/equity/inclusion, eop/student support services, financial aid, fraternity/sorority life, international student services/study abroad, housing/residence life, orientation, and more. 

Clinical Experience

In order to graduate, you will complete 600 hours of supervised experience. Our program will help you find internship sites that best align with your interests, skills, and career goals.

Vast Outcomes

This degree will prepare you for work in a variety of settings such as community colleges, four-year colleges, private and public institutions, research universities and non-profit organizations. Some graduates also pursue PhD programs.

To counsel others, you must take care of yourself! The Masters of Arts in Student Affairs Counseling will teach you how to design self-care strategies that will keep you strong and healthy as you work with your students!

Customize Your Experience

Students can choose from two pathways to complete their degree. Unsure of what to choose? Speak with your Student Experience Mentor for guidance in selecting the best option for you!

Full-Time Students

Students who enter in the fall semester and wish to complete the program full-time will earn their degree in just 4 semesters over 1 ½ years.

Part-Time Students

If students wish to complete the program part-time, they’ll take 2–3 classes per semester, leading to an average completion time of 3 years.

Course Modality

Courses in this program may be offered in a variety of formats. We currently offer a hybrid format (some online courses, some in-person). Full-time students are required to take the courses when and in the format in which they are offered. Part-time students may decide when and how to take their coursework.

Fall One:

  • MSAC 510 Professional Orientation & Ethics: Student Affairs Counseling
  • MSAC 530 Human & Student Development Theory: A Lifespan Approach
  • MCC 500 Helping Relationships
  • MCC 560 Social and Cultural Foundations

Spring One:

  • MSAC 555 Leadership & Administration in Higher Education
  • MSAC 536 Program Assessment and Evaluation
  • MCC 570 Group Theory and Practice
  • MCC 520 Career & Lifestyle Counseling

Summer One:

  • MCC 580 Research Design & Methodology
  • MSAC 585 Internship I

Fall Two:

  • Elective (any graduate level 3-credit course with advisor approval) 
  • MSAC 586 Internship II

How to Apply

Students who hold a bachelor’s degree in any major and have a vocational desire to enter this helping profession are encouraged to apply. With no prerequisites to complete, you will begin the path to degree completion and licensure right away. 

Application Requirements

All applicants must begin by completing Moravian’s free . Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis and the GRE is not required for entrance to this program. With your application, please complete the following:
