History Student Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to:
- Interpret and evaluate primary sources (documents and other artifacts from the past) and explain their historical significance and potential use in supporting or refuting a historical narrative
- Interpret and evaluate secondary sources (historical interpretations produced by scholars); compare, contrast, and assess competing interpretations; and propose directions for new scholarship
- Form arguments about the past based on critical analysis of primary and/or secondary sources and compose logically-organized, argument-driven historical narratives that are informed by secondary sources and justified by references to primary sources
- Communicate effectively in writing
- Communicate effectively in public speaking
- Articulate practical applications for history and job possibilities for history majors
